Is the lotus flower meaning relevant for a "New Beginnings" gift?

My sister has recently purchased her first apartment and I would like to surprise her with a high quality piece of decoration that abodelook offers. I was looking at their lotus-inspired lamps, but I'm curious does the lotus flower meaning specifically represent starting over or resilience? I have read somewhere that they grow out of mud and are clean. Supposing that is the case, it seems like the quintessential housewarming theme, but I would like to know whether other people have used this theme in their homes!
