Path of Exile has seven base classes. Each class starts at a different location on the passive skill tree and has access to different attributes. But the base class is only the beginning. During the endgame, players enter the Labyrinth to unlock their Ascendancy class. These specialized subclasses grant powerful, build-defining bonuses that cannot be obtained anywhere else. Ascendancy classes transform a generic character into a unique monster-slayer. Choosing the right Ascendancy is one of the most important decisions in Path of Exile.

The Labyrinth is a trap-filled dungeon that appears in each act. To unlock your Ascendancy, you must complete the Labyrinth on normal difficulty, then cruel, then merciless, and finally the eternal Labyrinth at endgame. Each completion grants two Ascendancy points, up to a total of eight. The Labyrinth is dangerous. Traps deal percentage-based damage. Izaro, the final boss, has three phases with escalating mechanics. Dying in the Labyrinth resets your progress. You must start over from the beginning. The challenge is real, and the reward is worth it.

Each base class has three Ascendancy options. The Marauder can become a Juggernaut for extreme durability, a Berserker for massive damage at a cost, or a Chieftain for fire and totem specialization. The Witch can become a Necromancer for minion builds, an Elementalist for elemental damage, or an Occultist for chaos and curse builds. The Ranger can become a Deadeye for projectile speed and chain, a Raider for frenzy charges and dodge, or a Pathfinder for flasks and poison. Each Ascendancy completely changes how you build your character.

The power of Ascendancy nodes is immense. A Necromancer node might make your minions aggressive and grant them bonus attack speed. An Elementalist node might make all your damage ignite, shock, and chill simultaneously. A Juggernaut node might grant you unstoppable immunity to slows and stuns. These bonuses are build enablers. A build that is mediocre on a base Marauder becomes godlike on a Berserker with the right nodes. Ascendancy choices define your playstyle more than any other decision.

Some Ascendancy classes are flexible. The Pathfinder works with poison builds, but also with any build that uses flasks heavily. The Occultist works with chaos damage, but also with energy shield stacking and curse support. Other Ascendancy classes are narrow. The Saboteur is for traps and mines. The Hierophant is for totems and brands. The Guardian is for support auras and minions. Knowing which Ascendancy fits your build idea requires system knowledge. The community has optimized Ascendancy choices for almost every skill in the game.

Respeccing Ascendancy points is possible but costly. You can refund individual points with Orb of Regret, but changing your entire Ascendancy class requires completing the Labyrinth again and choosing a different option. This permanence makes your choice meaningful. You cannot casually switch from Necromancer to Occultist. You must commit, then run the Labyrinth if you change your mind. Most players create new characters rather than respec their Ascendancy. The cost of change encourages thoughtful planning.

Path of Exile 3.28 Currency’s Ascendancy classes add depth to an already deep game. They reward players who master the Labyrinth. They enable creative builds. They give identity to each character beyond the passive tree. A Necromancer feels different from an Elementalist. A Berserker feels different from a Juggernaut. That variety keeps Path of Exile fresh league after league. Choose your Ascendancy wisely. It will define your journey through Wraeclast.
