Camaro SS 8L90 shudder is driving me nuts, anyone tried that gearbox shop in Sharjah for a proper flush?

Post by davidwarner »

Bought my 2017 Camaro SS about four months ago and honestly I was having the time of my life with that LT1 growl until about three weeks back when I noticed this weird vibration at light throttle cruising that feels exactly like I'm driving over rumble strips even though the road is smooth as glass, and after spending way too much time on the Camaro6 forums I've diagnosed myself with the classic 8L90 torque converter shudder that GM pretends doesn't exist unless you're still under warranty, and of course my car is well past that so the dealer just shrugged and said a new torque converter and fluid flush would be roughly the same cost as a small used Corolla. I've been looking for a place that actually knows how to do the proper triple flush procedure with the updated Mobil 1 blue label fluid and not just a drain and fill that'll leave the old contaminated stuff in the converter and I ended up on this page https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/brands/camaro/ which actually lists the 8L90 specifically and talks about the shudder issue like they've seen it a hundred times, so now I'm cautiously optimistic but also a bit wary because I've been burned before by shops that claim they know American V8s but then you show up and the guy is watching a YouTube tutorial on your car while you're standing there. I live in Sharjah anyway so it's not a huge trek for me but I'd really love to hear from someone who's actually taken their Camaro or Corvette or even a Silverado to these guys for the shudder fix and can tell me if it solved the problem long term or if the vibration just came back after a thousand kilometers. I don't want to drop a bunch of cash on a flush if I really need a new torque converter but I also don't want to replace the converter if fresh fluid would have sorted it, you know how these things go with modern automatics, it's always a guessing game until someone who knows their stuff actually looks at it.
